Nitrous Oxide Sedation is also available upon request.

Facts About Sedation Dentistry

  • It works.
  • It is safe. You take a small pill prior to treatment.
  • Work requiring several appointments can be done in 1 visit!
  • People who have difficulty getting numb have no problem when relaxed.
  • It is safely used to reduce the fatigue of extended dental treatments that require long visits.

How Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) Works

nitrous

One of the safest and the lightest forms of sedation available Nitrous Oxide is non-allergenic and non-irritating. The gas also tends to reduce gag reflexes and saliva flow. Most patients describe a feeling of well being and relaxation during their treatment and with no after side effects.

A small mask will be placed over the patient’s nose and adjusted so that the patient is comfortable. At this time, the patient will be breathing 100% oxygen.

Once the patient is comfortable breathing oxygen, the dentist gradually will introduce nitrous oxide. When the patient is feeling completely relaxed, the procedure can begin.
At the conclusion of the sedation dentistry treatment, the patient will once again receive 100% oxygen (for a minimum of three to five minutes). At the end of this time, the person should feel absolutely back to normal.

How Oral Sedation Works

Oral Sedation is the safe, convenient and economical way to administer drugs – through the mouth. When properly administered, oral sedation can be more effective and deliver a deeper relaxation state than nitrous. During the initial consultation, we will determine the best sedation option for you, take your baseline vital signs and review your medical history.

You are given a pill to take one hour prior to your dental appointment. A companion will accompany you to the office. When you arrive, you will be very drowsy. You will relax into a very comfortable chair.
During the procedure, we will monitor your pulse, oxygen saturation rate, blood pressure and heart rhythm. We will remain by your side during the procedure. After you are comfortable, our experienced clinical team will take care of your dental needs. You will remain awake, but will feel very relaxed and drowsy.

Pulse Oximeter & Blood Pressure Monitoring

During all sedation appointments, the blood pressure and pulse are continually monitored on our patients. In addition, we monitor the oxygen saturation levels of the blood with a pulse oximeter that gently clips onto the finger.
